Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts, Jr. addressed an overflow audience of business leaders and Inglewood residents during presentation of his annual State of the City speech. The speech focused on progress achieved during his first year in office (FY 2010 - 2011) and on the City’s continued efforts to address challenges. Butts commented on a number of City issues including economic development, public safety, infrastructure improvements, fiscal matters and the residential sound insulation program.

Some of the key elements covered in the speech included the following: Police officer layoffs averted by securing a $3 million Federal grant; Improvement in the City’s finances through reduction of the structural deficit; Audit of Inglewood’s Residential Sound Insulation Program to enhance efficiency and improve responsiveness to residents; Reduction in the overall crime rate by 3% (lowest rate in decades); Rehabilitation loan provided to assist in renovation of The Forum as a part of a proposed plan by The Madison Square Garden Company to purchase the facility; Comprehensive 5-year financial forecast analysis of the City’s General Fund; and Enhanced funding to strengthen and improve the City’s infrastructure system.

"I am pleased with the progress that the City is achieving for its residents and businesses," said Butts. "With the combined support of residents, businesses, and municipal government, I am confident that Inglewood will be able to capitalize on a number of beneficial opportunities that will move our community in a positive direction."
